The Pentagon declared that it never wanted a war between the United States and China, and that Washington would continue its strategy to deter Beijing.

“We have opponents, especially China, which is developing at a high speed,” said Deputy Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General John Hayton, during a press conference on Friday.

He added that the United States still has an advantage over China in the military field, but the latter may catch up with his country in the future.

He continued, “We cannot allow this. I know that our country will never want a war with China, and this means that we must deter China in order to prevent a war with it.”
